Stunning Antique Transylvanian embroidered panel from the Kalotaszeg area of Transylvania.
175 x 48cm, embroidered on a home loomed hemp cloth. Early 20th century
This embroidery is known as irasos or written embroidery, it uses a closely spaced open chain stitch. The pattern was traditionally drawn by a writing woman and embroidered by another woman in the village
The panel has a faint yellowish mark at one end, and one small area of worn cloth, both shown in images, excellent condition for age
