Around 25 km from Budapest just outside Szentendre  in the feet of the Pillis hills is the award- winning skanzen, open air village museum. 

It's  a great day out for anyone intereted in Hungarian folk culture, village architecture and  the historty of Hungarina folk culture.  

Its a huge space with traditional buildings  from  eight distinct regions  of Hungary set out by area. Its well kept, there are gardens and even some livestock!  You can enter some of the buildings to see the renonstructed folk interiors of times past

 

There is a lot to see (and  a long way to walk  in lots of open space, (pack your sunscreen)  there are bikes for  hire and a museum train. At Easter, whitsun and some other weekends there are special events
